Dr. Brian Bretz grew up in northern California and obtained both his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of California, Davis. He graduated from the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Following graduation, he completed a rotating internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, New Jersey followed by a joint residency in small animal surgery at Tufts University and the MSPCA Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. After being exposed to the management aspects of the veterinary profession, he returned to school to obtain an MBA from the University of Chicago in 2016.
Dr. Bretz enjoys all aspects of surgery including soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, oncologic, and minimally invasive procedures. He has also had the opportunity to lecture nationally and internationally on a variety of surgical topics.
In his free time, Dr. Bretz enjoys spending time with his family, running, scuba diving, and traveling
Sara is the Medical Director at Franklin Veterinary Clinic, where she joined in 2009. Sara, originally from Massachusetts, ventured south to pursue marine biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Her special interests are Internal Medicine and Nutrition.
In her spare time, she enjoys running and spending time with her husband, son, and their Labrador retriever, Hawkeye.
Dr. Kellyann Haydon is the medical director at Hudson Veterinary Care, where she has been since its opening in 2022. She has a passion for surgery and pain management. Dr. Haydon also enjoys mentoring new veterinarians who have recently graduated from school. She is interested in the business aspect of veterinary medicine and enjoys the challenge of seeing the numbers come together.
Dr. Haydon is excited to join the Medical Advisory Board and values the collaboration with other members of the board.
In her free time, she enjoys riding her horse Mallard, playing the harp, and playing golf in the summer.
Stacey is the Medical Director at Cranston Animal Hospital. A native of Rhode Island, she received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and then attended the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery and decided to stay on as an ER veterinarian. She later moved into general practice.
Stacey has been with Rarebreed for almost 3 years. She enjoys dermatology, medicine and taking care of her patients throughout all stages of life. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, sporting events, spending time with her family on lacrosse fields and outings with her dogs.
Katie attended Ohio State University and received her DVM in 2005. She then completed a rotating small animal internship at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine from 2005-2006. Following the internship, she completed a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston from 2006-2009 and received board certification in 2009.
Katie has worked as a criticalist at multiple 24-hour specialty hospitals in the Boston area and decided to try a different path in 2022 when an opportunity to lead a PetMedic Urgent Care became available. She has enjoyed this role thoroughly, especially since she is still able to see a fair amount of emergency cases, which is where her passion is.
In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 kids, and 2 dogs.
Dr. Ai Takeuchi is a University of Pennsylvania graduate (06) and finished her small animal medicine and surgical internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls NJ (07). Since then, she has worked in 24-hour referral facilities in Philadelphia, Memphis, and Baltimore before dipping her toes in general practice in rural Maine for almost ten years before coming on board as a full-time veterinarian at Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic.
Her professional interests include emergency critical care and surgical emergencies. Being in both urban environments with specialty emergency care to rural general practice, she has a diverse background in veterinary medicine.
In her spare time, she is wrangling her 3 kids, 2 dogs, and enjoys riding her horse.
Dr. Nathan Truitt hails from Lancaster County and has always been surrounded by animals from a young age, growing up and tending to animals on his family’s farm. He attended Delaware Valley College, earning his BS in Small Animal Science with a minor in Physics. Following his undergraduate career, he attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, an accelerated program on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. While on the island, Dr. Truitt led many non-profit organizations helping underprivileged areas with free veterinary care.
Upon finishing his didactic schooling, Dr. Truitt attended The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine for his final clinical year. Dr. Truitt also completed a Neurology research internship at the University of Illinois. Dr. Truitt’s areas of interest in veterinary medicine include canine and feline surgery, cardiology and neurology.
In his free time Dr. Nathan Truitt enjoys working with his tractor on his farm, riding his horse Bruce as well as golfing and bowling. Dr. Nathan Truitt is also an avid outdoorsman. Dr. Truitt is very proud of his new baby boy, Tristan, and loves spending time with him and his wife.
Dr. Gracey Welsh is the Medical Director /Partner at Lake Placid Animal Hospital in upstate New York. Her professional background includes corporate leadership,
emergency practice, and general practice within New England and upstate NY. She is passionate about client communication and informed decision-making with her
clients. She is fear-free certified and is working towards ABVP certification.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outside with her husband and two daughters. She has a small dairy goat/homestead and trains and trials English Pointers with
her husband.
Dr. Brian Graves is a managing partner at Falmouth Veterinary Hospital in Falmouth, Maine. The practice joined the Rarebreed community in 2022. Brian enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping to educate owners so they can better understand how to best care for and bond with their pets.
He lives in Cumberland Maine with his wife Jennifer and son Connor (14) and their pups Quirky and Luka. When not working, Brian is an avid golfer and skier.
Dr. Amy Bell is an emergency and critical care specialist at Maine Veterinary Medical Center. Her medical interests include transfusion medicine, coagulation, acute kidney injury, and acute management of cardiac conditions and arrhythmias.
Outside of work, Dr. Bell enjoys being outside exploring Maine, reading, baking, and spending time with her wife, Kim, and their toddler, Alexander.
Chris’s passion for animals began early in life, but he did not catch the “veterinarian bug” until college. After leaving his hometown of Redlands, California to earn his veterinary degree from Ross University, he decided to settle in Maine. Shortly after he moved to this beautiful state, he found what would become his home since 2015, Kindred Spirits. And the rest is history.
When not at the clinic, Chris enjoys traveling with his wife Asa, walking his Labrador /Red Heeler mix Bailey, or taking naps with his four cats, Rocky, Raccoon, Black Beard, and Yeti. He also donates his time to the local humane society as a member of their board of directors.
Fun Fact: Dr. Jordan got married in an eight-hundred-year-old church in Italy.

Dr. Jordan grew up in Texas and attended Texas A&M University for both undergraduate and veterinary school. After working at both private and corporate practices in Raleigh, North Carolina, she spent a year traveling to different clinics when they needed a helping hand. Through this experience, she developed a passion for helping clinical teams find joy in the day to day and feel supported both inside and outside of work.
An avid gardener, she lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband, Zach, and rambunctious Boston Terrier, Asparagus. She loves to travel and find inspiration for new recipes when hosting friends and family.
Fun Fact: Sam is an avid antique collector and enjoys woodworking and restoring furniture..

Sam is a native of the Syracuse, New York, area where she began her career as a kennel attendant at a local shelter. She found her purpose there and pursued her passion for animals by attending Mount Ida College to obtain her veterinary technology degree. She moved to Nantucket where she excelled in general practice and became a member of the New England Aquarium Marine Mammal Field Response Team. After leaving Nantucket, Sam worked for an emergency and referral hospital where she spent time in the ER/ICU and in dermatology and later worked as a supervisor. Taking a step out of practice, she refined her skills as a practice consultant.
Sam lives in the hamlet of Leeds, New York, with her wife, her dog, Petunia, three cats, Gilly, Max, and Tomato, and 15 chickens. She enjoys homesteading and restoring her 1890 farmhouse.
